Fontinalis antipyretica var. gigantea is one of several varieties of the common willow moss. This strong moss grows especially large and is mainly found in stagnant or slow-flowing waters, e.g. in shaded lakes in the woods.
In comparison with varietys of F. antipyretica found in flowing water, F. antipyretica var. gigantea has larger, wider leaves with a more obtuse tip that grow at wider angles on the stem.
