This red-brown plant is known in aquaristics as Blyxa novoguineensis but misidentified. It is a red form of Blyxa aubertii. The true B. novoguineensis is endemic of the island of New Guinea and likely not in aquarium culture. Photos on the internet of the herbarium sheet of the isotype of Blyxa novoguineensis Hartog (Brass No. 7638) show a plant with a long, sparsely foliose stem with relatively short leaves.
In contrast, Blyxa aubertii "Red" has the leaves arranged in a rosette. They are red-brown even with moderate lighting, in contrast to B. japonica and customary green B. aubertii. Its overall height, respectively leaf length, of 30 cm places it between those two plants.
