Echinodorus 'Dschungelstar' No. 16 is also known as Echinodorus 'Deep Purple' in trade. Like all other hybrids of the 'Dschungelstar' series, this variety was bred in the early 1990s by Julius Hoechstetter (Trostberg, Bavaria, Germany).
It grows up to 50 to 60 cm in height, its submersed form is of a striking dark red, almost black, and it grows dense leaf rosettes.
Submersed leaves:
-narrow elliptical leaf blade, leathery, up to 25 to 35 cm long and 6 to 7 cm wide
-leaf stalk 10 to 25 cm long
E. 'Dschungelstar' Nr. 16 resembles Echinodorus 'Rubin' (difference: the former is of a much more intensive dark red and has more pronounced longitudinal nerves) and Echinodorus 'Red Mamba'. It also resembles dark-coloured wild forms of Echinodorus uruguayensis.
