Various authors count Echinodorus osiris among the highly variable species E. uruguayensis. However, there are also hints that it is a natural hybrid of E. uruguayensis and another species. It was collected in very few locations in rivers with a strong current in southeastern Brazil. E. osiris was one of the first reddish Echinodorus that were brought into the hobby decades ago, long before the first red Echinodorus hybrids were cultivated.
