Echinodorus 'Reni' was bred by Tomas Kaliebe by crossbreeding E. 'Grosser Baer' and E. 'Ozelot', and it was brought onto the market in 2003.
In submersed cultivation, this variety has widely elliptic dark red leaves with slightly lighter-coloured veins. It tends to stay quite small for a long time, with its leaves growing only 10 cm in length and 6 cm in width, which makes it a good foreground plant. However, after some time it will start growing out, forming up to 25 cm long leaves 8 cm in width and 10 cm long leaf stalks.
E. 'Reni' needs lots of light and nutrients.
