This plant is often sold under the erroneous name "Fittonia argyronauta" in aquarium trade. It is a variety of Fittonia verschaffeltii with silvery white leaf veins.
F. verschaffeltii 'Argyroneura' is not a suitable aquarium plant. When planted submersed, it dies off sooner or later and rots away. It does not tolerate waterlogged soil either, as it is not a marsh plant.
Like all other Fittonia species, this low-growing ground covering plant from the South-American tropics is highly suitable for warm terraria with moist air, bottle gardens etc. Normal potting soil is a suitable substrate. As the plant only develops shallow roots, it does not require a thick substrate layer.
