Limnobium spongia, the North-American frogbit, occurs from Canada down to the south-east of the USA in stagnant or slow-flowing waters as floating plant or as marsh plant on muddy ground. This species is only rarely in cultivation today. It differs from Limnobium laevigatum (found in Central to South America) by its leaves which are of a more distinct heart shape and have a more pronounced tip.
