This Java fern form originates from spring pools in the limestone karst area of Krabi in the south of Thailand, where it is mainly found submersed (Claus Christensen, personal communication). M. pteropus 'Undulata' grows relatively large and has broad leaves. Its growth habit is dense and bushy. Its undulate light green leaves reminding of lettuce are its most prominent feature. No sporangia have been observed on emersed nor on submersed plants, apparently this variety is sterile. However, it forms especially large numbers of daughter plants on its leaves.
