This milfoil is a local form of Myriophyllum aquaticum from the state Santa Catarina in southeastern Brazil. This plant has lower demands on cultivation than the "standard form" of M. aquaticum and also differs in its appearance: the leaves have less pinna and a lighter green colour, and under lots of light they may assume a reddish-brown hue. Moreover, the milfoil from Santa Catarina will not grow out of the water as frequently. Its growth habit reminds of that of Myriophyllum mattogrossense.
The emersed sprouts are distinctly smaller than those of the "standard form".
Myriophyllum aquaticum 'Santa Catarina' is a new plant and apparently not easily availabe in trade but rather from other hobbyists.
