This plant is to be counted among the true grasses (Poaceae family) and was brought into trade in Asia and the USA as "Arthraxon sp. 'Malaysia'". Flowering emersed plants made its identification as Sphaerocaryum malaccense possible. It is found in the Asian tropics in marshy locations, where it forms loose mat-like groups.
This grass species can be cultivated submersed, but is not known as aquarium plant and cannot be bought in trade in Europe yet.
Sphaerocaryum malaccense has ovate to lanceolate leaves and thus looks very much like a plant sold as "Arthraxon spec." in Europe and also in Germany. This rather succulent plant is not a true grass, though, but belongs to the Commelinaceae family, and probably to the genus Cyanotis.
