The species of the genus Syngonium are aroids originating from the Central and South-American tropics that climb on trees as hemiepiphytes, like many Philodendron and Monstera species, or like Epipremnum species from Asia. They have long been cultivated as undemanding houseplants, and they are also very suitable as terrarium plants.
Some Syngonium species, especially 'Pixie Compact' with its heart-shaped leaves dappled with white, are frequently sold as aquarium plants in trade, but die off when cultivated submersed.
