really nice plants!
First I doubted that "Achilles" belongs to Bucephalandra at all, because such pronounced lateral nerves of the leaves are rather known from certain Aridarum species. But in that blog are pics of an "Achilles" inflorescence (exposed spadix, with spathe removed) showing the characteristics of Buce:

I notice rather upright growing rhizoms in large Bucephalandra forms ("Pancuraji", "Serian" etc.). Is that also the case in Buce "Achilles", or have the rhizoms a more creeping growth?

in der Zwischenzeit ist Bucephalandra sp. "Achilles" (= "Skeleton King", "Black Skeleton", "Green Skeleton") unter dem Namen Bucephalandra kishii wissenschaftlich beschrieben worden. (Habe die Thread-Überschrift entsprechend geändert.)
Weil eine dunklere und eine hellere Form in Kultur sind, schlage ich vor, diese als Bucephalandra kishii "Dark" und B. kishii "Green" zu bezeichnen.

Hier ist die Originalbeschreibung der Art:

Innerhalb von Bucephalandra einzigartig sind die hervorspringenden Seitennerven, aber diese Art hat noch verschiedene weitere Besonderheiten, z.B. sehr charakteristische Blütenstandsmerkmale, eine regelmäßige Blattrosette an einem aufrechten Rhizom, und das Vorkommen in 1500 m Höhe (einziger bekannter Fundort: Gunung Saran in West-Kalimantan). Die Art wurde zu Ehren von Hiroyuki Kishi benannt.

For those who still do not believe that the underwater leaves of D. Achilles also have a visible veins.

looks beautiful! Maybe underwater leaves with pronounced veins are a matter of time? (Don't have that Buce yet)
Btw., Peter Boyce wrote on facebook that submerged culture of Bucephalandra kishii is tricky. Do you also have the impression that it takes longer time than other Buces to adapt to submerged conditions?

A characteristic of Bucephalandra kishii ("Achilles", "Skeleton King") mentioned in the Wong & Boyce paper is that the leaves are arranged in a distinct rosette on the top of a stout upright rhizome. In contrast to other Bucephalandras where the leaves are more spaced. Does the B. kishii maintain its rosette-like habit when grown submerged for a long time?

Wow! Selten so gestaunt über Arten die man so nicht kennt/bekommt und findet... Dein Blog war auch sehr lesenswert ebenso wie die vielen wirklich schönen Bilder!! Danke schonmal dafür! Da steckt viel Liebe drin...
Als oft nun mehr stiller Mitleser stellt sich mir die Frage ob Du wohl solch exorbitante Schönheiten (D. Achilles) noch übrig hast und dringend loswerden willst?! :wink:

Hallo,

hab mich gerade sehr gefreut über die Entwicklung dieser Knospe.
Es handelt sich um die grüne Variante.
Auch diese Pflanze wird schon länger submers gepflegt. (2 Jahre?)
