Hi,
hier das Rätselkraut von Andreas: artenbestimmung/wer-bin-ich-t39206.html
Wie ich da schon geschrieben habe, spekuliere ich auf 'nen "In-vitro-Krüppel" von Pogostemon quadrifolius. Auf japanischen Seiten wird eine unter dem Namen Pogostemon sp. "Mengmeng" gezeigt, die wie normaler quadrifolius aka "Octopus" aussieht. Aber nichts Genaues weiß man nicht...

Jaja,
'ne Mutation ist das sicher. Deshalb fliegt der Sch...ß auch bald raus, weil ich auf sowas nicht wirklich stehe.
Ausnahmen sind Ludwigia spec. "curly" und rosanervige Geschichten. Von Letzteren aber auch nur möglichst wenig.

Hi,

I've had this plant for a few months now. I send it to some people in German so I think we all have the same stuff.
I can confirm that it's some sort of mutation of Pogostemon quadrifolius (octopus).
In the picture you can see it returning back to it's normal light green form which happens sometimes.

Hi Rick,
thank you for the info. Do you still have the returned normal light green form of the "Mengmeng"? With that, we could confirm if it's really quadrifolius, e.g. by cultivating it side by side with the common "Octopus" strain.

Hi Heiko,

No unfortunately not but if this happens again I will try to make a comparison. I did let the stems on the picture grow to full size and I couldn't see anything that distinguishes it from quadrifolius. It looked exactly the same.

seeing your pic and those on the Japanese sites, I also believe it's the quadrifolius. Couldn't yet find out the meaning of "Mengmeng" or "Meng Meng", it's also possible that it's no locality name but a personal name of someone in Asia; maybe the quadrifolius strain from Laos popped up in the hobby or trade in Asia as nameless plant - who knows...

... eben noch mal gegoogelt: hier werden verschiedene Fundorte von Pflanzen angegeben - unter anderem:

Also ich denke, das ist wirklich quadrifolius. Und dass das Glasige erst später (in-vitro?) gekommen ist - ich möchte mich lieber nicht festlegen, ob das eine Mutation ist, oder irgendwas nicht genetisch Fixiertes.
